DaggerFX

DaggerFX is a native Windows port of the original The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, preserving the classic experience while making the game easier to run on modern systems.

This project is not intended to compete with Daggerfall Unity. It is the classic game running directly on Windows, with a few quality-of-life improvements and fixes for bugs inherited from the original release.

WHAT'S NEW IN BETA 2?

Beta 2 adds quicksave and quickload, more fixes for bugs inherited from the original game, and several improvements to DaggerFX native Windows backends.

New feature

• Added quicksave and quickload with Ctrl+S and Ctrl+L.

Improvements

• Improved fullscreen switching and window handling.
• Reduced CPU usage when the game is waiting for a redraw.

Fixes

• Fixed several crashes, including a cursor-related crash.
• Fixed a number of keyboard, mouse, joystick, and interface issues.
• Fixed interior doors incorrectly becoming locked.
• Fixed regional data and banking inconsistencies.
• Fixed several vampire-related issues.
• Fixed inventory, dialogue, book, and library interface bugs.

BEFORE YOU PLAY

DaggerFX is still beta software, so save frequently and back up your existing saves.

DaggerFX is unsigned software. Microsoft SmartScreen may display a warning when you run it for the first time. Some antivirus products may also report a false positive because DaggerFX modifies the original game code in memory.

Current limitations

• The main quest has been tested extensively, except for the Mantellan Crux.
• Side quests have not yet been tested as broadly.
• Translated versions of the original FALL.EXE are not currently supported.
